The MC20 definitively breaks with Maserati's past. This is no heavy Grand Tourer, but an uncompromising supercar built around an ultralight carbon monocoque. While the market switches to heavy batteries, Maserati mounts the brand new 3.0 litre Nettuno V6 with 630 hp centrally in the rear. Thanks to technology straight from Formula 1, this engine delivers an unprecedentedly raw throttle response. The design of the bodywork has remained pure. Downforce is entirely generated by the complex floor of the car, making aggressive wings redundant. The butterfly doors are equally functional and cut away a large part of the sill for a faster entry into the minimalist cockpit. Nice detail: the Nettuno block is the first engine in over twenty years that Maserati has developed entirely in house, without any technical interference from Ferrari. De neerwaartse druk wordt volledig gegenereerd door de complexe vloer van de auto, waardoor agressief spoilerwerk overbodig is. De vlinderdeuren zijn eveneens functioneel en snijden een groot deel van de dorpel weg voor een snellere instap naar de minimalistische cockpit. Leuk detail: het Nettuno blok is de eerste motor in ruim twintig jaar tijd die Maserati weer volledig binnenshuis heeft ontwikkeld, zonder enige technische inmenging van Ferrari.
